The experience

The lesson starts when you meet your instructor at the surf truck parked at the beach. You'll get suited up in a wetsuit, grab a surfboard, and walk to the sand for the first part of instruction. Your instructor covers surf safety, water etiquette, and the basic technique you'll need before you paddle out. Because the lesson is private, you have your instructor's full attention: no sharing them with a group, no waiting for someone else to catch a wave.

Once you're in the ocean, your instructor stays with you, coaching you into waves and offering real-time feedback as you learn to pop up and ride. The beaches used for lessons have sandy bottoms and gentle waves, which means the conditions are built for people learning to surf, not for experienced riders. Your instructor pushes you into waves to build your confidence, and the personalized approach means the lesson shapes itself around what you're hoping to get out of surfing.

The 90 minutes includes the surfboard, wetsuit, and instruction. You choose your departure time (10am, 12:15pm, or 2:30pm), so you can fit the lesson into your day. Bring a towel and a change of clothes. The beach is a short walk from where you park.
