The Experience

The speedboat's already idling at the dock when you arrive. You're strapped in, engine revving, and within minutes you're cutting across Biscayne Bay at a speed that makes the Miami skyline blur sideways. Forty-five minutes of this — the boat tilts into turns, salt spray hits your face, and you're passing the kind of waterfront homes that have their own boat slips and names you've never heard. Fisher Island slides past on one side, the Venetian Islands on the other (that's where the money actually lives, your captain will tell you), and then the boat angles toward open ocean, which is the part most bay tours skip. You see South Beach from the water, which is different from seeing it from the street — lower, wider, somehow more real.

After you dock and dry off, you walk straight to Bayside Marketplace where the double-decker bus is waiting. This isn't a single loop; it's a full day pass, and the bus runs every thirty minutes, so you can get off wherever something catches you and catch the next one when you're ready. South Beach, Little Havana, Wynwood Art District, downtown Miami — you're choosing the stops, not following a fixed route. The upper deck is where you sit if you want the view; the lower deck is where you sit if the sun gets too much. Some people do the whole circuit in one shot. Others get off at Wynwood, spend two hours in the galleries, and hop back on.

The whole thing starts at 10am, 10:30am, or 11:30am depending on which speedboat slot you book, so you can sleep in a little or get an early start. The bus runs all day from Bayside, which means you're not locked into a schedule after the boat ride ends — you move at your own pace for the rest of it. Wear sunscreen on the boat. The wind makes you forget you're getting burned.

Top questions

What exactly happens on the speedboat part?
A 45-minute ride across Biscayne Bay where the boat passes millionaire homes, Fisher Island, the Venetian Islands, and Key Biscayne, then angles into open ocean. It's the only tour boat that actually goes into the ocean, so you see the South Beach skyline from the water.
Can I do the bus tour on my own schedule?
Yes. After the speedboat ends, you have an all-day pass for the double-decker bus, which departs every 30 minutes from Bayside Marketplace. You can get off and on as many times as you want.
What neighborhoods does the bus cover?
South Beach, Little Havana, Wynwood Art District, and downtown Miami, among others. The bus runs a continuous loop, so you choose which stops to visit.
What time do I need to show up?
Speedboat departures are at 10am, 10:30am, or 11:30am. You'll want to arrive 15 minutes early to check in.
Is this safe for people with back problems?
The speedboat is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries due to the motion and impact of the boat on the water.
Do I need to be fit for this?
The speedboat and bus are suitable for all physical fitness levels. The boat ride is 45 minutes of sitting; the bus is stationary or moving slowly through the city.
What should I bring?
Sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat for the speedboat. The wind and water reflection intensify sun exposure. Bring a light jacket or sweater for the upper deck of the bus if you're sensitive to wind.
Is there parking at Bayside Marketplace?
Yes, Bayside Marketplace has parking. Public transportation options are also available nearby if you prefer not to drive.
