The Experience
I didn’t expect the water to look so clear around Miami Beach — almost like a giant swimming pool, but with pelicans flying by and music bouncing off the waves. Our captain (I think his name was Carlos?) handed us cold water right away and told us to hook up our playlist. Someone put on Bad Bunny, which just felt right as we pulled out into Biscayne Bay. The city looked different from the water — shinier, I guess. You could smell sunscreen and salt in the air, plus a bit of engine oil (not in a bad way). It’s funny how quickly you forget about traffic when you’re out here.
We cruised past these wild houses on Millionaire Row — some had pools bigger than my apartment. Carlos pointed out one he swore belonged to some old pop star (I honestly can’t remember who). There was this moment where dolphins popped up near the bow; everyone scrambled for their phones but mostly just laughed because they disappeared so fast. We anchored by a sandbar where the water was warm and shallow enough to stand. I tried snorkeling for maybe five minutes before deciding floating with a drink was more my speed — but my friend swears she saw a stingray gliding under her feet.
You can bring whatever snacks or decorations you want (someone brought flamingo balloons for our friend’s birthday), and there’s ice in the cooler if you need it. The whole thing felt easygoing — no rush, just sun and music and people waving from other boats. At one point I leaned back and watched clouds drift over downtown Miami, thinking how different everything feels from out here. Still think about that view sometimes when I hear those songs again.
