The Experience

Salt on my lips and the faint squeak of neoprene — that’s what I remember first about this mermaid swimming lesson in Maui. The water at Makena Bay was warmer than I expected, almost lazy against my skin, and our instructor (Jess, who actually grew up here) handed me a tail that felt heavier than it looked.
