Las Vegas: Emerald Cave Kayak Tour & Black Canyon Paddle
Paddling to Emerald Cave: What the Colorado River Looks Like Up Close

The Experience
The moment you push off from Willow Beach, you realize the canyon walls are taller than any photo prepared you for. The Black Canyon opens up around you—volcanic cliffs rising sheer on both sides, the Colorado River running cold and narrow below. This 3.5-hour kayak tour covers about five miles roundtrip, and it moves at a pace that lets you actually look around instead of just surviving the paddle. Your guide is there to point out the Desert Big Horn Sheep clinging to the rocks and the Bald Eagles that show up if you're quiet enough, and the group stays under twelve people, so there's no feeling of being herded through.
The first real stop comes about a mile upstream at a historical overlook—you beach the kayak, do a short hike (five or six minutes, nothing steep), and your guide walks you through what the Colorado meant to the people who lived here. After that, you paddle on toward the thing everyone came for: Emerald Cave. The water there is so green it doesn't look real. You can swim, float around, take photos that actually do look like the ones online. There's time to just sit with it. The guides bring snacks—bananas, granola bars, water—so you're not hungry or thirsty by the time you turn back.
If you book the shuttle option from Mandalay Bay, the logistics disappear. The hotel pickup means no rental car, no navigating to Willow Beach, no figuring out park entry on your own. You get picked up, driven out, paddled, and returned—the whole thing handled. The guide is experienced enough that even if you've never kayaked before, you spend the day paddling instead of worrying. Water shoes or sandals are essential (you step into the water getting in and out), and sunblock is not optional in the canyon.
What’s included
- Your day includes a professional kayak tour guide, single or double kayak and life vest, bottled water, bananas and granola bars, and a stop at Emerald Cave with time to swim and hike.
