The experience
The route covers a lot of ground: the Kennebunkport Historic District where sea captains built mansions, a stretch of Maine coast with rocky crags and summer homes, an iconic stone church with ocean views, the former summer White House, a working fishing and lobster pier where you can see Goat Island Lighthouse, one of the best sandy beaches in New England, and a dirt road through the Emmons Preserve forest. Your guide sets the pace and builds in time to stop, learn about the places you pass, wade into the ocean if you want, and take pictures.
The e-bikes are recent-model class 2 machines with multiple pedal assist modes and an optional throttle, so the motor handles the hills and the distance. You get a helmet, a basket for your things, and a guide who will walk you through everything before you start. If you can ride a regular bike, you'll be fine on an e-bike. The tour runs 2.5 to 3 hours, which leaves the rest of your day open.
