Manatee kayak tour at Blue Springs

  • Join kayak manatee tour
  • Explore Blue Springs State Park
  • Observe wildlife and manatees
  • Enjoy peaceful paddling experience

The experience

How do you see manatees without disturbing them? Blue Springs State Park is Florida's manatee winter sanctuary, and the kayak puts you at water level where the animals congregate without the noise and wake of motorboats. The operator, a UF master naturalist who has run tours on Silver River and other Florida waterways for 20 years, times departures early: mornings are when wildlife is most active and the river is quietest. You paddle your own kayak, guided by someone who knows where the manatees gather and what they're doing.

The 4-hour tour covers the spring-fed sections where manatees winter over, and the early start is deliberate: it beats the crowds that arrive later. You're not watching from a tour bus or a crowded platform. You're on the water, moving at the pace of a paddle. The guides are trained naturalists who focus on the animals and the river ecosystem, not just checking off a list of sights. Kayak experience is not required: the tour suits all fitness levels, and children from age 4 can join.
