The experience

You show up at Fort Myers Beach with an afternoon free and no experience necessary. The staff walks you through the basics on a brand-new Sea-Doo, certified and fully insured, then you're out on the water for either 30 minutes or a full hour depending on which rental you pick. The craft is stable enough to cruise at a relaxed pace if that's what suits you, or fast enough to feel the acceleration if you want it. Up to two people ride on one jet ski, so a friend or family member comes along at no extra charge.

Arrive 30 minutes before your rental time so the staff can go over the controls and safety gear. All operators need to be 16 or older and must bring a photo ID. If you were born before 1998, you'll need a temporary boating license, which you can get online ahead of time or pick up on the beach. Life jackets are provided. The combined weight limit is 400 pounds, with no single rider over 300 pounds. Kids as young as 6 can ride along as passengers.

Parking is available across the street at the public beach lot. Public transportation options are nearby if you're coming from elsewhere in Fort Myers. Once you're done, you return the jet ski and head back to whatever's next on your day.
