The experience
Four to five hours in the mountains before most of Jackson wakes up. Your guide picks you up from your hotel in the Jackson Hole area and drives into Grand Teton National Park as the sun rises, when elk, moose and bears are moving through the valleys and meadows. You'll have spotting scopes and binoculars to watch from a distance, and your guide, a local naturalist, knows where to find them and what their behavior means. The route and stops shift based on what's active that morning and what you want to focus on, so if you're a photographer you can linger on light and composition, or if you're after a particular species, the guide adjusts.
The private vehicle and one-guide setup means you're not waiting for a group to finish a photo or moving on before you're ready. Bottled water and snacks are included, and the guide shares stories about the geology and history of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem as you drive and watch. You'll make short walks at some stops if the animals and the light warrant it, and the guide points out the smaller details (scat, tracks, feeding patterns) that explain what you're seeing.
The tour ends with a drop-off back at your hotel. Summer and winter departures operate on different schedules and see different wildlife patterns, so pick the one that matches when you're visiting. Groups larger than five need a phone call to arrange.

Top questions
What animals am I likely to see on a sunrise safari in Jackson?
Elk, moose, bison, pronghorn, foxes and bears are all present in Grand Teton, and the early morning is when they're most active and visible. Your guide knows the seasonal patterns and where to position the vehicle for the best sightings, though wildlife viewing is never guaranteed.
How early does the tour start, and what should I wear?
The tour departs before sunrise, so you'll be picked up while it's still dark. Bring layers and dress warmly: mountain mornings are cold even in summer, and the tour operates in all weather, so waterproof outerwear is wise.
Is this tour good for photography?
Yes. The private guide and vehicle let you spend as much time as you need on light, composition and positioning. Spotting scopes are provided, and the guide will work with your pace and interests to find good vantage points.
Do I need to be in good physical shape for this tour?
The tour is suitable for all fitness levels. Most of the time is spent in the vehicle or at scenic stops, with only short walks at some locations if you choose to get out.
What's the difference between the summer and winter sunrise safari options?
Summer and winter have different wildlife patterns, snow cover and daylight hours. Summer offers longer morning light and different animal behavior. Winter brings snow-covered landscapes and different species visibility. Choose based on when you're visiting.
