Float at 130 to 175 mph inside an 800-horsepower wind tunnel, one-on-one with an instructor.

Indoor skydiving at iFLY Loudoun in Manassas gives you two separate one-on-one flights in a vertical wind tunnel after a training session with a certified instructor. The entire experience runs about 75 minutes, includes all gear and training, and requires no prior skydiving experience. Minimum age is 3 years; children under 18 need a parent or guardian to sign the waiver. Weight limits apply: flyers over 300 lbs cannot participate, and those between 260–300 lbs require staff evaluation at check-in.

The Experience

You arrive at iFLY Loudoun and start with a training session led by a certified flight instructor who walks you through the basics of body position and safety inside the wind tunnel. The instructor explains how the 800-horsepower vertical wind tunnel works — it generates a wall-to-wall cushion of air that keeps you suspended without falling, the same technology professional skydivers use. No experience is necessary; the setup is designed so almost anyone can fly.

Once you're geared up and ready, the tunnel operator slowly increases the wind speed until you and your instructor are airborne. You'll experience two separate 60-second flights at wind speeds reaching 130 to 175 mph, floating in the enclosed chamber while your instructor stays with you the entire time to guide your movements and keep you stable. The adrenaline builds as the air holds you up, and the stable airflow means you won't tumble or lose control. Between flights and after you land, you have time to catch your breath and absorb what just happened.

When it's over, you leave with a personalized flight certificate as proof of your achievement. The whole session — training, both flights, gear setup and takedown — takes about 75 minutes. Wear lace-up sneakers or running shoes and comfortable clothes; the facility provides all the protective gear you need. iFLY Loudoun is a short drive from metro DC, so it works as a standalone activity or a break from a longer trip to the area.

Top questions

What happens during the training before I fly?

A certified flight instructor teaches you body position, hand signals and safety rules inside the wind tunnel, then walks you through what to expect as the wind speed increases. Training takes place before your first flight and prepares you to stay stable in the airflow.

How long do I actually spend flying in the wind tunnel?

You fly twice, each flight lasting 60 seconds one-on-one with your instructor. The entire experience, including training, gear setup and both flights, takes about 75 minutes from arrival to departure.

Do I need any skydiving experience to do this?

No experience is necessary. The facility is designed for first-timers, and your instructor guides you through every step. The wind tunnel's stable airflow and your instructor's presence keep you safe and in control.

What should I wear, and what gear is provided?

Wear lace-up sneakers or running shoes and comfortable clothes. iFLY provides a flight suit, helmet, goggles and all other protective gear you need; everything is included in your booking.

Are there weight or health restrictions I should know about?

Flyers over 300 lbs cannot participate. Those weighing 260–300 lbs require evaluation by staff at check-in to confirm they can fly safely. If you have a history of neck, back, heart or shoulder injuries, are pregnant, or wear a hard cast, you won't be able to fly.

Can children do this, and what do parents need to do?

Children as young as 3 years old can fly. Children under 18 must have a parent or guardian sign their waiver before the experience begins.
