Huntington Harbour Stand Up Paddle Board Lessons for Beginners
Land lesson, then paddle the sheltered canals with wildlife and waterfront homes in view
A beginner stand up paddle board class in Huntington Harbour where an instructor teaches you paddle technique on land, then guides you through the calm canals for 90 minutes. All equipment is provided, no experience is needed, and you'll see herons, pelicans, sea lions and the waterfront homes that line the water.
The experience
The lesson starts on land. Your instructor covers paddle technique and safety before you ever touch the water, so you build confidence on solid ground. Then you move into Huntington Harbour's canals: the sheltered waterways that make learning easier than paddling in open ocean. The calm conditions and narrow passages give you room to find your balance without fighting waves or wind.
Once you're on the board, your instructor stays with you through the canals, teaching as you paddle. You'll pass charming waterfront homes and boats, spot herons and pelicans hunting in the shallows, and watch sea lions surface nearby. The water is still enough to see reflections of the sky and palm trees, and you're far enough from the crowds and surf breaks that you can focus on the paddle stroke itself. All equipment (board, paddle, and any safety gear) is provided.
The whole experience runs 90 minutes. Children can join from age 5, and the pace is yours to set. You're not racing or performing. You're learning a skill in one of Southern California's most forgiving spots for it.
