Skills training, then three hours on the reef with a guide

A guided scuba diving experience on Oahu's south shore reefs for introductory divers, with a 1-on-1 skills session led by a PADI Professional before the reef tour. All gear rental, snacks and refreshments are included; participants must clear a medical questionnaire and cannot fly within 24 hours of diving.

The Experience

You've never strapped on a tank before, or it's been years. Either way, the dive starts on land. A PADI Professional meets you for a 1-on-1 skills session covering the safety guidelines and basic techniques you'll need underwater—how to breathe, how to equalize pressure, how to signal your guide. You're never alone in the water; the guide stays with you the entire time, watching your form and keeping you calm as you adjust to the sensation of breathing below the surface.

Once you're ready, you head out to the reefs along Oahu's south shore. The water here holds sharks, turtles, eels, rays, octopus, starfish, crabs and Hawaiian endemic fish that don't exist anywhere else on earth. A three-hour window gives you real time to move through the reef instead of rushing through a single site. Your guide points out what's worth watching and stays close enough that you can signal if you need to surface or slow down.

All premier gear comes free—wetsuit, tank, regulator, fins, mask and weight belt. Snacks and refreshments are included. You'll need to check in 30 minutes early and bring a valid email for your confirmation. One rule: don't book this dive if you're flying out within 24 hours, since the pressure change can cause decompression sickness. You also need to clear a medical questionnaire before the day; if you have cardiovascular concerns or are pregnant, talk to the operator first.

Top questions

What marine life will I actually see on the reef tour?

The reefs along Oahu's south shore hold sharks, turtles, eels, rays, octopus, starfish, crabs and Hawaiian endemic fish found nowhere else. Dolphins also appear in the area, though sightings depend on the day.

Is this dive safe if I've never been underwater before?

Yes—the 1-on-1 skills session with a PADI Professional covers everything you need to know, and your guide stays with you the entire time you're in the water. The operator requires all divers to be able to swim and to clear a medical questionnaire beforehand.

What's included in the price, and what do I need to bring?

Premier gear rental, snacks and refreshments are all included. Bring a swimsuit, towel and valid ID; arrive 30 minutes early for check-in. You'll need to provide your weight, date of birth and a valid email address when you book.

Can I do this dive if I'm flying out the same day or tomorrow?

No—you cannot fly within 24 hours of diving due to decompression sickness risk. Plan your dive for at least a full day before your flight.

What's the age requirement, and can kids do this?

The minimum age is 10 years old. Children ages 10–11 require an additional fee; check with the operator for the exact amount when you book.

How long does the whole experience take?

Plan for three hours total, including the 1-on-1 skills session and the guided reef tour. Arrive 30 minutes early for check-in, so budget four hours from start to finish.
