The Experience

The tour starts in a state-of-the-art screening room where you watch an introductory film, then meet your guide at the Storytelling Showcase to learn about nearly 100 years of studio history. From there you board a specialty TCM Classic Films Tour Cart and ride out onto the back lot to explore the sets and production areas where Golden Age films and TV shows actually shot—from the early days through the 1970s. The guide narrates the route with help from TCM host clips woven into the experience, so the classics themselves frame what you are seeing.

Midway through, you reach Stage 48: Script to Screen, where the tour shifts to self-guided. Here you walk through the Central Perk set from Friends, the Big Bang Theory sets, explore classic costumes, and move through the Postproduction Area to learn how sound is made. You can eat at Central Perk Café if you want a break. The finale is Action and Magic Made Here, where you see recreated sets, props and costumes from the DC Universe and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter and Fantastic Beasts.

The Property Department and Rose Garden—backstage storage and landscaping areas where the studio keeps its working inventory—are not part of the standard tour. On this one, you get behind-the-scenes access to both. You also start with a welcome reception that includes light bites and archival photographs spanning a century of Warner Bros. history, a detail that sets the tone before you step onto the lot. The whole experience runs 90 minutes with a guide, 30 minutes longer than the regular tour.

Top questions

What's the difference between this tour and the standard Warner Bros. Studio Tour?

The TCM Classic Films Tour includes 90 minutes with a guide (30 minutes more than the standard tour), behind-the-scenes access to the Property Department and Rose Garden, a welcome reception with archival photographs, and a specialty TCM cart. The standard tour does not visit those backstage areas or include the reception.

Do I need to know about classic movies to enjoy this tour?

No. The guide and TCM host clips provide context about the Golden Age films and TV shows that shot on the lot, so you learn as you go. The tour is built for anyone interested in how movies and TV were made during that era.

Can I bring young children on the TCM Classic Films Tour?

Children are welcome from age 5. Infants and small children can ride in a pram or stroller, and all areas and surfaces are wheelchair accessible.

How much of the tour is walking versus riding in the cart?

You start with a guided portion on the specialty TCM cart through the back lot, then transition to a self-guided section on foot through Stage 48 and the finale areas. The cart handles the outdoor lot; the walking portion covers the indoor stages and exhibition spaces.

Is there food available during the tour?

Yes. The welcome reception includes light bites before the tour begins, and Central Perk Café is open during the self-guided portion of Stage 48 if you want to grab something while you explore.
