The experience
The tow starts on the ground: you're harnessed into the glider, the ultralight hooks on, and you're pulled skyward. Once you reach altitude (up to 3,000 feet depending on conditions), the tow releases and it's just you, the instructor, and the glider. The world goes quiet. Your hands are on the control bar, and the instructor walks you through how to bank, climb and hold steady. The view spreads across Lookout Mountain and the valleys beyond, with no engine noise and no barrier between you and the air.
What you do with the flight is up to you. If you want smooth, gentle flight to take in the landscape, the instructor keeps it steady. If you want to feel the glider respond (tight turns, climbs, the sensation of surfing thermals), ask and they'll show you that too. The instructor stays right next to you the entire time, handling the landing and managing the glider while you focus on the experience. Dress for the day's temperature as if you're driving with the windows down. Bring sunglasses if you have them, though safety glasses are provided.
What’s included
- Use of the hang glider and a licensed, certified instructor for the full flight.
- ground briefing and instruction on how to control the glider in the air.

Is this one for you? This flight works for anyone from age 14 up to their 90s who wants to actually fly the glider, not just ride along. The instructor handles the tow and landing while you take the controls aloft, so it suits people with no hang gliding experience and those who want to feel what the glider responds to under their hands.

Top questions
What languages is the guide in?
Live guide in English and Spanish.
Can children come?
Yes. Ticket types: Child (14 to 17 years). Under 14: they can't be included in the booking.
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. No refund if you cancel.
Can I really control the hang glider, or does the instructor do it all?
You control the glider once you're airborne. The instructor shows you how to work the control bar and guides you through turns and climbs. They handle the tow-up and landing, but the flight itself is in your hands with them right there coaching.
What's the weight limit, and is there an age requirement?
The weight limit is 250 lbs due to equipment constraints. You must be at least 14 years old to fly. The operator accommodates most disabilities and special needs, so call ahead if you have questions about your eligibility.
How high does the flight go?
The tow can take you up to 3,000 feet, though altitude depends on weather and conditions on the day. At that height, the temperature feels like driving with the windows down on the highway.
What does the two-hour experience include?
The two hours covers ground briefing, the tow-up, the flight itself, and the landing. You get use of the hang glider and the services of a licensed, certified instructor for the entire time.
What should I wear for a hang gliding flight?
Wear comfortable athletic clothing suited to the day's temperature: no skirts or dresses. Shoes must have backs (no flip-flops). Bring sunglasses if you have them. The operator provides safety glasses if you need them.
