Step-by-step itinerary

Rafting on Nenana River rapids

  • Meet guide at Nenana River
  • Paddle through Class II rapids
  • Navigate one Class III rapid
  • Enjoy scenery of Panorama and Carlo Mountains
  • Experience boreal forest views

The experience

Three and a half hours on the Nenana River means you hit the water in the morning or afternoon and finish with time left in your day. The guide takes you through the upper river's multiple Class II rapids and one Class III rapid, where the current picks up and the paddling gets real. You're in a kayak with a paddle, helmet, personal flotation device and river footwear, everything provided, so the only thing you bring is the willingness to get wet.

The scenery is the boreal forest itself: cascading waterfalls and rugged ridgelines frame the Panorama and Carlo Mountains as you move downriver. This is not a scenic float. The rapids are the point, and the landscape is what surrounds the work of paddling through them. The water does the talking here.

Pickup from your hotel is included, so you don't arrange transport to the river. A live English-speaking guide meets you at the put-in and leads the group through the day. The dry suit keeps you warm in the Alaskan water even when you're splashing through the Class III, and the pace is built for a play day in the waves rather than a survival mission.

What’s included
