The experience
One and a half to two hours on an eBike covers the stretch most visitors miss. You start toward the Dana Point Headlands, where the path climbs gently and opens into views of the harbor, the marina, and the Pacific. Julian stops at scenic overlooks to walk you through Dana Point's history, from its early days as a trading and hide-dropping port to what it is now. Then you ride down into Dana Point Harbor itself, following the waterfront past the Ocean Institute and the Beach Stairs overlook, where you can see the old Killer Dana surf break. The route swings around Baby Beach and past the redeveloped shops and restaurants before heading back toward Doheny State Beach along the shoreline path.
At Doheny, you'll ride alongside the jetty at Boneyard, where longboarders glide into one of Dana Point's mellow surf breaks. The boardwalk takes you past the grassy picnic area and volleyball courts, then south through the campgrounds where oceanfront sites sit steps from the sand. This part of the ride shows you tide pools and coastal habitat most people on the beach never see. Continuing south into Capistrano Beach Park, the route passes wide sandy stretches and open ocean, then slips through the Hole in the Fence pathway: a narrow trail that opens directly onto a quiet, wave-washed strip of coastline. That's where the ride ends, on the raw natural edge of Capo Beach.
Julian provides the eBike, helmet, and bike lock. Bring your own water or let him know if you need one of the extra bottles he carries. The tour runs in English and suits anyone who can ride a bicycle. No one under 11 can join. Public transportation is available nearby if you need it to reach the starting point.
