The experience

I didn’t expect the first thing I’d notice to be the sound: tires crunching over gravel as our Hummer rolled into Grand Canyon South Rim. It’s weird, but you think you know what it’ll feel like until you’re actually there, wind flicking dust across your shoes and that dry, piney smell in the air. The Hummer itself was kind of fun: stadium seats meant nobody missed anything, even when we craned around for that first glimpse.
