Summary

Segway ride past red rocks, wildlife and Colorado tales

You’ll glide on a Segway through Garden of the Gods with a local guide, stopping at iconic spots like Kissing Camels and Park Overlook. Expect stories about Colorado Springs’ wild past, unexpected wildlife sightings, and plenty of time to soak up those wild red rock views. It’s mellow-paced, includes helmet use and safety training—and leaves you with more than just photos.

experience

What’s the experience like?

"If you see a mule deer, just nod at him—he’s probably seen more tourists than you," our guide Mark joked as we wobbled onto our Segways outside the Garden of the Gods Visitor Center. I was honestly nervous about balancing, but after ten minutes in the so-called “Cone Zone” (Mark’s name for the little practice area), I started to relax. The helmet felt a bit awkward at first, but then I got distracted by this dry pine smell in the air—Colorado always has that crispness, even when it’s warm.

We rolled out as a group (just six of us), and right away Mark pointed out Kissing Camels—two rocks leaning into each other like they’re sharing a secret. He told us how some people see faces or animals in every formation; I tried to spot them all but mostly just saw rocks and shadows. There were birds circling overhead—red-tailed hawks, apparently—and once I caught a glimpse of something moving behind a juniper bush. Mark said it might be Big Horn Sheep but it could’ve been my imagination. The sun hit those red rocks so hard it almost glowed orange under our wheels.

At one stop, Mark shared an old story about cowboys hiding out here, which made me laugh because now there are just families taking selfies and us on Segways looking slightly ridiculous (in a good way). The pace was mellow—nobody rushed—and we mostly stayed on our machines except for short breaks where Mark would point out something odd or funny in the landscape. I didn’t expect to feel so relaxed gliding along; there’s something about moving quietly through all that open space that sticks with you. Sometimes I still think about that view from Park Overlook—the silence except for wind and someone’s muffled laugh behind me.
