The Experience

We rolled through downtown, windows down for a bit until the humidity won. Dr. Sorrell pointed out these flashes of color—a mural here, a marker there—each one tied to Juneteenth or someone who’d fought for equality in Texas. The Absolute Equality Mural is huge up close; you can see brushstrokes if you squint. I tried to pronounce “Nia” right when we stopped at the Nia Cultural Center (Li laughed when I tried—probably butchered it).
