The experience

The tour starts in San Francisco downtown and crosses the Bay Bridge before heading inland through the Central Valley, California's most productive agricultural region, and into the Sierra Nevada foothills. You'll make a quick stop in Oakdale to grab water, snacks or supplies before continuing toward the park. The drive itself is part of the day: you pass through historic Gold Country and travel Big Oak Flat Road, which opens views of Yosemite's high country landscapes as you approach from the west.

Once in Yosemite Valley, the guide takes you to the major attractions. Yosemite Falls is actually three separate falls stacked 2,425 feet high (Upper Fall, middle cascades and Lower Fall) with peak flow April through June when snowmelt roars down. A one-mile loop trail leads to the base of the Lower Fall if you want to walk closer. You'll also see Half Dome, El Capitan and stop at Tunnel View for an expansive panorama across the entire valley. The itinerary mixes guided sightseeing with free time so you can explore on foot or by bike, snap photos of the forests and rock formations, and move at your own pace through the other natural wonders the park holds.

Private transportation in an air-conditioned van means no switching between buses or waiting for shuttles. The guide is with you the whole day and handles the route. Bottled water is included, and all park fees and taxes are built into the price. Hotel pickup from Oakland or the surrounding area is part of the booking, so you don't arrange transport separately. The small-group cap keeps the van under five passengers, which changes how the day feels compared to a larger coach tour.

What’s included

Is this one for you?The tour departs from Oakland with hotel pickup included, so you don't need a car or arrange your own transport to reach Yosemite from the Bay Area. The small-group van keeps the experience more personal than a larger coach, and the thirteen-hour day means you see the major sites (Half Dome, Yosemite Falls, Tunnel View) without splitting the trip across multiple days.

How long is the drive from Oakland to Yosemite, and when do we actually get to the park?

The full tour runs thirteen to fourteen hours door-to-door, which includes the drive from Oakland through the Central Valley and up into the Sierra Nevada. Most of that time is spent traveling and exploring inside Yosemite itself. The initial drive from the Bay Area takes several hours depending on traffic and stops.

What exactly is Yosemite Falls, and can I walk to it?

Yosemite Falls is three separate waterfalls stacked vertically (Upper Yosemite Fall at 1,430 feet, middle cascades at 675 feet, and Lower Yosemite Fall at 320 feet) making it one of the world's tallest. A one-mile loop trail leads to the base of the Lower Fall, and you can see the falls from multiple spots around Yosemite Valley, especially near Yosemite Village and the Valley Lodge.

Is lunch included, and where do we eat during the day?

Food and drinks are not included with the tour. You'll make a stop in Oakdale on the drive to Yosemite where you can purchase water, snacks, food for hiking or a picnic to bring with you into the park.

What's included in the price, and do I tip the guide?

Private transportation, bottled water, an expert guide, all park fees and taxes, and an air-conditioned vehicle are included. Gratuities to the guide are optional and handled at checkout if you choose to add them.

Do I need to be in good physical shape to do this tour?

The tour is suitable for all physical fitness levels. You have free time to explore at your own pace. You can walk the one-mile trail to Yosemite Falls, bike around the valley, or simply stand at the overlooks and take in the views. The guided portions and free time are flexible enough to match what you're comfortable doing.
