A driftboat holds up to five anglers, and the guide rows while you fish.

A full day driftboat fishing trip in Jackson Hole puts you on one of four rivers (the Snake, Green, Salt or Lewis Lake) with a guide who teaches fly fishing or spin fishing to beginners through experts. You float for about six hours on the water, with gear, bottled water and snacks included. The total outing runs seven hours with drive time factored in. Fishing license is your choice at checkout.

The experience

The Snake River, Green River, Salt River and Lewis Lake each fish differently depending on the season, and your guide picks the one that's running best on the day you book. You'll float in a large driftboat built to handle up to five guests, which means the boat moves through the water while the guide rows and positions you in the current. This setup lets you cover more water than you could on foot and keeps the pace steady without wearing you out between casts.

Fly fishing and spin fishing are both available. You choose which one suits you, or mix them if you want to try both. The guide teaches as you go, whether you've never held a rod or you fish regularly. Bottled water and snacks come with the trip. Lunch is on your own. The full day runs six hours on the water plus about an hour for drive time to and from the river, depending on which water is fishing best that season. There's a 500-pound weight limit per person.
