The experience

Beantown Pub opens the tour in downtown Boston with slow-cooked Boston baked beans, one of two Boston classics still served there. From there, the route follows the Freedom Trail's historic streets, stopping at four eateries where you'll taste creamy clam chowder, a classic lobster roll, and finish at the Omni Parker House: the hotel where Boston Cream Pie was first created in the 1850s. Most tastings are plated and served while you're seated inside the restaurants, so there's time to absorb each stop and the stories behind it rather than eating on the move.

Your guide shares the food history woven through Boston's past: Native American influences, colonial traditions, and the dishes that have shaped the city's identity. Along the way, you'll pass Faneuil Hall Marketplace, a former meeting place for American revolutionaries now filled with street performers and local vendors; Bell in Hand, the oldest continuously operating tavern in the country, dating to the 1700s; and the Granary Burying Ground, where Paul Revere and Samuel Adams are buried. A photo stop at Government Center marks where the city's civic life meets its modern energy.

The group stays small, the pace is leisurely, and you'll get insider recommendations that go beyond the standard tour. Drinks are optional. You can add a local craft beer or handcrafted cocktail at checkout, or keep it to food alone. Gratuity for your guide is separate from the tour price.

What exactly do I taste on this Freedom Trail food tour?

You'll have generous tastings of four New England classics: slow-cooked Boston baked beans at Beantown Pub, creamy clam chowder, a classic lobster roll at Bell in Hand (the tavern from 1795), and Boston Cream Pie at the Omni Parker House, where it was invented in the 1850s. Most tastings are individually plated and served while seated, so you get a real meal, not just samples.

How long is the tour and how much walking is involved?

The tour runs three hours total and follows the Freedom Trail through downtown Boston. The pace is leisurely, and most of your time is spent seated inside the restaurants enjoying the tastings and the atmosphere rather than walking between stops.

Can I add drinks to the food tour?

Yes, at checkout you can choose to add either two local craft beers or one handcrafted cocktail to your booking. If you prefer to skip drinks, the Food Tour Only option includes all the tastings and the guide's stories without them.

What historic sites does the tour pass along the Freedom Trail?

You'll walk past Faneuil Hall Marketplace, a bustling hub that was once a meeting place for American revolutionaries; Bell in Hand tavern, continuously operating since the 1700s; the Granary Burying Ground, where Paul Revere and Samuel Adams are buried; and Government Center, where you'll get a photo stop at a landmark tied to Boston's tea-drinking heritage.

Is this tour suitable for someone with limited mobility?

The tour is wheelchair accessible, and public transportation options are available nearby. The leisurely pace and the fact that most tastings happen while seated inside restaurants make it manageable for varying fitness levels.

Who leads the tour and what language is it in?

A knowledgeable local guide leads the experience in English, sharing stories about Boston's food culture and the city's history as you move through each stop.
