The experience
The tour leaves from your downtown or Riverwalk hotel and drives northwest about 70 miles into Hill Country, where the Texas wine region has grown to nearly 90 wineries. You'll stop at three of them across the day. At each winery, the guide leads a brief facility tour and you taste a flight of wines in the tasting room. The fees are covered. Between stops, you get water, crackers and chocolate to keep you going.
Fredericksburg itself gets a full two-hour window in the middle of the day. This is the charming German-settled town that anchors the region, and the time is yours to spend however you want: walk the main streets and galleries, browse the shops, or sit down for lunch at one of the restaurants and cafes scattered through town. You're not herded through a tasting menu or a fixed itinerary here. You choose what to do and where to eat.
The van is air-conditioned and seats your whole group together. Your guide speaks English and knows the wineries and the region. The full day runs about eight and a half hours from pickup to drop-off.
