The experience

Ever wondered what it’s like to float above emerald water and suddenly spot a flash of silver below? That’s how our day started in Fort Walton Beach, not even five minutes after we slipped off the side of the catamaran, I caught myself grinning underwater at a curious little fish. Our guide, Jamie (who somehow knows every shell by name), waved us over when she spotted something interesting. I’m still not sure how she managed to talk through her snorkel, but we all swam over anyway. The water was cool but not cold, and there was this faint smell of sunscreen mixed with salt that just felt like summer.

After we’d poked around for shells and tried (and failed) to catch sight of a sea turtle, everyone clambered back on board.
