The experience

You arrive at a small bike shop where you pick up your e-bike or single-speed beach cruiser, helmet, and phone mount. The route is already loaded on your phone: no human guide, no group pace, no schedule pressure. You ride mostly on sidewalks and through neighborhoods, sneaking between million-dollar homes with beach views breaking through. A brief pause at a local boat launch lets you watch a video about the route ahead. At a beach access point, you'll see a famous local eatery and learn about the area's white sand before you head into the state park.

The state park entrance costs $2 extra, but once you're in, the ride opens up. You'll stop at the jetty, Shell Island, and Gator Lake. Keep your eyes out for alligators, dolphins, turtles, deer and exotic birds. The pier is the main gathering spot: bathrooms, a gift shop, food and drink, and a long view of the water where you can photograph whatever shows up. Since there's no guide waiting and no group to keep up with, you can linger as long as you want, swim if the mood strikes, or sit with a meal. The whole loop is 8.5 miles and takes roughly three hours on average, but you set the pace.

E-bikes fit riders 4'11" and taller. You must be at least 16 to ride. The bike, helmet, lock and phone mount come with your rental. Just get back by 5 PM unless the shop tells you otherwise. No park fee is included in the rental price, so budget the extra $2 when you book.
