Step-by-step itinerary
E-bike tour of Boothbay Harbor

The experience
Villard Studios is the last working studio from the 1901 Commonwealth Art Colony, and the tour opens there with Kim and Philippe Villard walking you through their work and demonstrating their practice. From the studio, the route follows an old Indian trail the Wawenock tribe used for centuries, skirting Appalachee Pond before the ride opens onto the coastline around Lobster Cove and Linekin Bay.
The e-bikes do the climbing. You steer and take in the route. The path carries you through forested Sprucewold, past the historic Sprucewold Lodge and a log cabin village, then out to the end of Spruce Point where the coastline hugs the water and the outer harbor spreads in front of you: harbor islands, lighthouses, and Burnt Island Lighthouse in clear view. The Spruce Point Inn, visible along the way, was a favorite stop for the Kennedy family and Ernest Hemingway. The group stays small at six riders, and the pace is built around the ride itself, not a rush between stops.
You'll need to ride a standard bike confidently. If it's been a while, a practice ride beforehand makes the difference. The tour runs two hours total. Bottled water is included, and you get 10% off another Mysterious Harbor Tours e-bike or walking tour if you book a second outing.
