You’ll ride through Denali’s wild forest trails under the midnight sun, guided by locals who know every bump and shortcut. Expect hotel pickup, gear included, and plenty of stories along the way—plus that strange thrill of sunlight when your body says it should be night.
I still laugh thinking about how I almost missed the start because I couldn’t believe a tour would actually leave at 9pm—then again, Alaska’s midnight sun is its own kind of magic. We met our guide, Tyler, who handed out helmets and gloves that smelled faintly like campfire smoke. He joked about “Alaskan sunscreen” (meaning bug spray) while we got used to our ATVs. The air felt cool but not cold, just enough to keep you awake.
The first few minutes on the trail were bumpy—I’m not a pro rider, so I probably looked ridiculous gripping the handlebars too tight. But Tyler was patient, checking in every so often with a thumbs-up or a quick story about Denali’s history. The light was wild—soft and gold, even though it was nearly 10pm. At one point we stopped near a rocky creek bed and just listened for a second. You could hear birds, but also this weird hush that made me realize how far from everything we really were.
We covered about 10 miles all together. Sometimes the dirt kicked up behind us and sometimes it was just mud—my jeans will never be the same. There were families in side-by-sides waving at each other, and Tyler pointed out where Gates of the Arctic starts beyond the tree line. He said locals call this time of year “the season of no real bedtime.” I thought he was kidding but honestly, I get it now.
The tour departs at 9pm during summer solstice weeks.
