Hike the coast your way, not a set itinerary

A custom coastal hiking tour near San Luis Obispo where you choose the terrain, difficulty and length of your hike, guided by a live guide in English or Spanish. The guide designs the route around your priorities before you start, so you spend four hours on the trails that match what you want to see and do. Pickup from your hotel or location is included. Groups larger than four follow the guide to the trailhead in their own vehicle.

The experience

Montana De Oro, Pismo Preserve, Estero Bluffs, Fiscalini Ranch and Harmony Headlands are the main coastal areas where these hikes happen. Before the tour, you tell the guide what kind of terrain appeals to you (rocky coastline, sandy bluffs, forest paths, or a mix), and what your fitness level is. The guide builds the route around those preferences, so a family with one slower hiker gets a different day than a group training for a backpacking trip. Every hike crosses several different habitats and plant communities, and all of them feature views of the coast.

The four-hour format means you're on the trail, not sitting in a vehicle. Pickup is included, so the guide meets you at your hotel or a location you choose and drives to the trailhead. If your group is larger than four people, you follow the guide's car in your own vehicle instead. The guide speaks English or Spanish, and children from age one are welcome: infants can ride in a backpack, and toddlers in a stroller on easier terrain.

What's the difference between the hikes at Montana De Oro and Pismo Preserve?

Montana De Oro features dramatic bluffs and rocky coves with ocean views from high terrain. Pismo Preserve offers a mix of coastal dunes, wetlands and beach access. Your guide can describe both and help you pick based on what you want to see.

Can I book a hike if I'm not very fit?

How does the guide know what hike to plan before we meet?

You describe your preferences (the kind of terrain, how steep you want it, what ecosystems interest you) when you book. The guide uses that to choose the specific trail and plan the route before pickup.

What's included in the four hours?

The four hours covers the guided hike itself and the drive to the trailhead. Pickup from your hotel or location is included. Meals are not.
