The Experience

The tour begins at District One inside the One South building on South Tryon Street (the same building as the Omni Hotel), where you'll get a thorough training session before you ever step on the Segway. No experience is necessary—the guide walks you through the basics until you're comfortable balancing and steering. Once you're ready, you'll follow your local guide through Uptown, covering ground that would take much longer on foot.

You'll glide past the Bechtler Museum of Modern Art and the Mint Museum of Art on South Tryon Street, viewing their exteriors and the surrounding architecture. From there, the route takes you through Fourth Ward Park, where you can see 18th and 19th-century buildings up close as you ride. The tour wraps up at The Green, a quirky and popular park at the edge of Uptown. The whole route covers the city's unique architecture, art installations, and historic spaces in a way that lets you see far more than you would walking the same streets.

You can choose between a 90-minute or 2-hour ride, though the longer option has limited availability. Wear comfortable closed-toe shoes if you can, dress for the weather, and plan to arrive early—the operator emphasizes that prompt arrival is essential, since training takes time and late arrivals can't always be accommodated. You'll need to be able to stand for the full duration and climb stairs without help to reach the starting point.
