The experience
You meet your guide at the ATLAS sculpture in front of Rockefeller Plaza and walk through Midtown Manhattan for either 2 or 3 hours depending on which option you choose. The route passes St. Patrick's Cathedral, built between 1879 and 1910, then moves through Rockefeller Center (home to TV studios and major corporations), and past Radio City Music Hall into the Theatre District. Your guide shares information about the city's history and culture as you move through Hell's Kitchen toward the Hudson River pier.
The walking tour ends at the boarding point, where your guide gives you tickets and a short introduction to the sights you'll see from the water. You then board a comfortable boat for a 1.5-hour cruise with an outdoor deck and indoor seating. The captain provides live commentary in English, and a multilingual app (available in Spanish, French, Portuguese, Italian, German and Mandarin Chinese) helps you identify landmarks as you pass them. From the water you see the Empire State Building, One World Trade Center, Ellis Island and the Statue of Liberty. An onboard café sells sandwiches, salads and snacks if you want to eat during the cruise.
The 4.5-hour option extends the walking tour to include Times Square, one of the city's busiest tourist areas, where your guide can point out Father Duffy Square and the One Times Square skyscraper and offer tips on local restaurants, clubs and bars. The basic 3.5-hour option skips Times Square and focuses on the core Midtown highlights. All areas are wheelchair accessible, and the tour suits all fitness levels. Arrive 5 minutes early so the group can board the boat on time.
