The experience
Four hours gets you from the basics of astrophotography to a finished Milky Way image you shot and edited yourself. You'll meet at a central location, then travel to a coastal spot (Southport or Oak Island, or somewhere else you choose), where the instructor walks you through the camera settings that actually work in the dark: shutter speed, ISO, aperture, and how moon phases change what you can capture. The tripod is provided, so you're set up to hold steady shots while the instructor coaches you through the frame.
Once your eyes adjust to the darkness, you start shooting. The instructor stays with you throughout, offering real-time feedback on your composition and settings as you work. This is not a lecture. You're behind the camera the whole time, making decisions and seeing the results. When the shooting wraps, you move into the optional editing session, where the instructor walks you through Lightroom so you can process your own Milky Way photo into something polished enough to keep.
The class is open to all skill levels, whether you're shooting on a smartphone or a full-frame mirrorless camera. No photography experience is required, only a camera you can bring and the willingness to learn how to use it in conditions most people avoid.
