The Experience

The Green City Tour Loop starts the moment you step on at Faneuil Hall, just a short walk from where your cruise ship docked. You're on a narrated trolley passing Faneuil Hall Marketplace, the North End, USS Constitution at Charlestown Navy Yard, and Beacon Hill—nine stops total, and you can jump off at any one of them and catch the next trolley when you're ready. The whole loop runs about two hours if you stay on, but most people don't. They get off at the Boston Tea Party Ships & Museum, spend an hour there (and get a discount on entry), then board again at a different stop.

After the Green loop, you can switch to the Orange Back Bay Loop—that's four more stops including Copley Square, Christian Science Plaza, and the Prudential Center with its Skywalk Observatory. Thirty minutes if you ride straight through, but again, the point is you don't have to. The third loop, the Blue Seaport Shuttle, connects the cruise terminal back to South Station and the Fish Pier, so if you need to get somewhere specific or just want to loop back to the ship, it's there. Pick-up for cruise passengers is at Stop 15, the Massport Black Falcon Terminal—look for the white tent at the end of the parking lot.

The trolleys are wheelchair accessible, and the conductor narrates the whole route, so you're getting context even if you're just riding to get your bearings. The pace is yours. Some people do all three loops in a day; others get off at Old State House or the Boston Massacre Site and walk the Freedom Trail from there.
