Boston Ghost Tour Scavenger Hunt: App-Led Adventure
Hunt for clues hidden on plaques, statues and street art across Boston
Astonishing Ghost Tour is an app-led scavenger hunt through Boston where you and your group answer trivia, solve puzzles, and complete photo challenges at real landmarks and hidden spots around the city. Start at any time without a guide or reservation, work through the hunt in 1.5 to 2 hours at your own pace, and earn points for the best photos. Each player gets an interactive role and receives texted challenges throughout.
The Experience
Download the Let's Roam app, register your tickets, and you're ready to go. The hunt sends you to real sights around Boston—plaques, statues, public art—where answers to trivia questions are hidden in plain sight. You'll need to be there in person to find them, which is what makes this different from a typical walking tour. There's no guide narrating; instead, the app guides you through each challenge and keeps score as you move through the city.
Photo challenges arrive as texts to your phone, and every player on your team gets an interactive role—meaning everyone has something specific to do, not just one person leading the way. You earn points for the best shots, so there's a reason to get creative with the camera. The whole thing takes 1.5 to 2 hours depending on how long you linger at each spot and how thorough you want to be with the photos. Since you start whenever you want and move at your own pace, you can stop for coffee, grab lunch, or slow down if a particular challenge catches your interest.
You'll get digital copies of all the photos your group takes during the hunt, and customer support is available if the app glitches or you get stuck on a puzzle. Wheelchair accessibility is available, and kids as young as five can join in. The hunt works on public streets and accessible public spaces, so you don't need a car or a guide—just the app on your phone and a group ready to compete.

Can I do this Boston scavenger hunt on my own, or do I need a group?
You can do it solo, but the hunt is designed for groups competing together. Each player gets their own interactive role and texted photo challenges, so a team of two or more gets the full experience. Solo players still get access to all the trivia and puzzles, just without the team scoring and role assignments.
What happens if I get stuck on a puzzle or the app stops working?
Let's Roam customer support is available to help with any concerns or technical issues. You can contact them through the app, and they'll assist you in getting back on track or troubleshooting the problem.
Do I need to buy separate tickets to enter the attractions the scavenger hunt visits?
No. The scavenger hunt takes you to public landmarks, plaques, statues and street art that are visible and accessible from the street. You don't need admission tickets to any paid attractions; the answers are found on the public-facing elements of these sites.
How much time should I actually plan for this hunt?
The hunt runs 1.5 to 2 hours depending on how long you spend at each location and how much effort you put into the photo challenges. Since you set the pace, you can stretch it longer if you want to explore the neighborhoods more or cut it shorter if you move quickly through the puzzles.
Can children do this Boston ghost tour?
Yes, children from age five and up are welcome. The interactive roles and photo challenges work for mixed-age groups, though younger kids will need an adult to help navigate the app and read the trivia questions.
