Zipline adventure over Umauma Falls plus private swim and picnic

You’ll soar over Umauma Falls on nine ziplines with a local guide leading the way, then cool off with a private swim in a hidden waterfall pond on Hawaii’s Big Island. Try kayaking or stand-up paddleboarding if you want, or just relax in the sun before enjoying an included picnic lunch surrounded by tropical gardens. It’s equal parts thrill and calm — something about that mix stays with you.

The Experience

We’d already zipped halfway across the Umauma River before I realized my hands were shaking — not from fear, just that weird mix of nerves and too much laughing. Our guide, Kaleo, had this way of making us all feel like we’d done it a hundred times, even though I definitely hadn’t. The first line was quick, but by the third zipline you could see the river glinting below and smell that green, almost sweet scent you only get in Hawaii after a rain (which is most days). Someone behind me yelled “go for it!” and I actually did. Didn’t expect to feel so light up there.

The best part wasn’t just flying — it was when we landed and Kaleo pointed out wild ginger growing near the platforms. He snapped off a bit for us to smell (spicy-sweet, kind of citrusy) before we kept going. The last zipline felt longer than I thought possible; I tried to look down at the gardens but mostly just squinted into the wind. After all nine lines, my hair was a mess and I couldn’t stop grinning. We wandered down toward the waterfall pond for what they call the “Zip-N-Dip” part — which sounded cheesy until I actually jumped in.

The water was colder than I expected (not freezing, just sharp enough to wake you up). Some folks grabbed kayaks or paddleboards, but I floated on my back for a while staring up at palm leaves moving against the sky. Lunch came out in these simple picnic boxes — nothing fancy but honestly perfect after all that adrenaline. There was this moment where everyone went quiet except for birds and water sounds. It stuck with me more than any photo could.

What’s included

Your day includes all nine ziplines over Umauma Falls with professional guides leading each group, access to kayaks and stand-up paddleboards at the private waterfall pond, plenty of time to swim or relax by the water’s edge, plus a simple picnic lunch served right there in the park’s tropical setting before heading back out into Big Island’s sunshine.
