The experience
Harrison's Cave is the anchor of this tour: you board an underground tram that winds through the cave system, passing stalactites, stalagmites, waterfalls and pools. The tram does the work, so you sit and watch the geology unfold without climbing or wading. After the cave, the route moves through Hunte's Garden, a botanical garden where you stop to photograph exotic plants, then to Codrington College, the oldest theological college in the western hemisphere, established in 1745, where you can walk the grounds and take photos of the 18th-century buildings.
St. John's Parish Church sits in rural St. John parish and offers a picturesque view from the churchyard. Bathsheba Beach on the northeast coast is the next photo stop. The day ends at St. Nicholas Abbey, a 17th-century plantation house with a working rum distillery. Here you get a guided tour of the house and distillery, sample St. Nicholas Abbey rum, and have time to browse and buy. A rum shop stop along the way lets you try locally made beverages (rum punch, beers, rum of your choice) before the final return to your hotel or cruise port.
Pickup happens between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. daily, and the full loop takes 6 to 7 hours. The vehicle is air-conditioned and the driver-guide handles navigation and commentary throughout. Bottled water is provided. Lunch is not included, though the rum shop and distillery visits offer food and drink options along the route.
