The drive to the Wildlife Conservation Center is the first attraction. You'll travel south on the Seward Highway—classified as an All-American Road and Scenic Byway—with Cook Inlet on one side and the Chugach Mountains on the other. A stop at Beluga Point gives you a chance to photograph bald eagles and Dall sheep on the mountainside; Beluga whales do appear here, especially in summer, though they're rare. The route itself is the kind of drive Alaska is known for, and the guide points out what the landscape is actually showing you.

At the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, you walk or bike a 1.5-mile loop through 200 acres of animal enclosures. The park is surrounded by the Chugach Mountain Range and sits in Portage Valley, where the landscape was shaped by glaciers.
