1-Hour Winter Dog Sled Ride in Fairbanks with Local Mushers
Ride behind a working sled team through frozen river valley and forest
A 1-hour dog sled ride in Fairbanks where you travel through the Chena River Valley and black spruce forest behind a local musher's own team of huskies. The experience splits between 45 minutes of mushing and 15 minutes meeting the individual dogs, hearing their stories, and taking photographs. Two guests ride per sled with an experienced guide who shares details about each dog and the mushing lifestyle.
The experience
Forty-five minutes of the hour goes to mushing: you'll travel through black spruce forest and along the frozen Chena River in the Chena River Valley, seated in a sled behind a working team. The huskies are family pets that live at their individual musher's home, not at a kennel, and each one has a story. Your guide is a local musher running their own team, so the knowledge comes from someone who lives the lifestyle year-round.
The remaining 15 minutes is spent at stops where you can cuddle the dogs, ask questions, and take photographs. Two guests ride together in each sled, and the combined weight limit is 430 pounds per sled. If you and a travel companion exceed that, you'll need to purchase an additional ticket. The experience runs in winter conditions, and if the temperature drops to -35°F or colder at 8:00 AM on the morning of your ride, the operator will attempt to reschedule you for a warmer day or issue a full refund.
