Snuba at Coral World Ocean Park in St. Thomas pairs a 30-minute guided underwater dive with a certified instructor and full equipment, plus entry to the ocean park itself. The experience sits between snorkeling and scuba: you wear a light harness tethered to a surface air supply instead of carrying tanks, so you can descend deeper and stay longer than snorkeling allows, but without the training scuba demands. Children from age 8 can participate. Moderate fitness is required.

The experience

The Snuba rig itself is the difference. Instead of a snorkel tube at the surface, you wear a harness connected to an air line fed from a raft above, letting you drop 20 to 40 feet down to the reef while breathing normally. A certified guide leads the dive and stays with you the whole time. When you arrive at Coral World Ocean Park, you'll spend time in the orientation area learning how the gear works and what to expect, then head into the water for the 30-minute guided dive where you actually explore the reef.

The park itself opens to you before and after. You can walk the grounds, see the exhibits and the aquariums at your own speed, then come back to the water. The whole experience runs about 90 minutes from arrival to finish. Bring swimwear and a cover-up. The park provides towels. Snorkel gear, weight belt, the raft and tanks, and the guide are all included.

You'll need to sign a health release form before you start: the activity isn't recommended for pregnant travelers or anyone with poor cardiovascular health, and you should be in at least moderate physical shape to participate. If you have questions about your fitness level, ask before booking.
