You’ll start right from the beach in St. Thomas’s calmest bay, wade into clear water with a local guide who helps you spot sea turtles up close, then float above colorful marine life at your own pace. After snorkeling, stretch out on soft sand for some relaxed beach time—no rush, just sun and salt air lingering with you.
We met our guide right on the sand—no boats, no rush, just that warm Caribbean air and a few curious chickens pecking around (I didn’t expect that). The water at this bay in St. Thomas was so clear you could spot turtle heads popping up before we even got in. I fumbled with my mask a bit, but our guide, Tasha, just grinned and helped me sort it out without making me feel silly.
Wading in was easy—no big waves or sudden drops, just soft sand underfoot and that weird grassy smell from the sea beds where the turtles hang out. Floating there, I could hear my own breathing through the snorkel and little clicks from fish darting around. The first time a green sea turtle swam right below me, I almost forgot to breathe properly (don’t do that). Tasha pointed out a stingray gliding past too—she knew all their names, or at least she said she did.
I lost track of time drifting along, watching pufferfish and these tiny squid doing their best not to be seen. There was this moment when everything went quiet except for muffled water sounds and someone laughing somewhere behind me—I still think about that view through my foggy mask sometimes. After we got out, we had half an hour to just sit on the beach. My towel ended up full of sand but I didn’t care; the sun felt good and nobody seemed in any hurry to leave.
