The Jeep holds four guests maximum, which means the tour stays small and the route bends to what you want to see. Your guide is a St. John resident who knows the island's steep roads and the stops worth making: Trunk Bay and Maho Bay in the national park, the quieter views across to the British Virgin Islands at Coral Bay, and the centuries-old sugar plantations at Annaberg or Cinnamon Bay if you want to learn the island's history. The vehicle is air-conditioned, so the ride between stops is comfortable even in the heat.

You'll spend most of the tour inside Virgin Islands National Park, moving between beaches and historical sites. There's time to stop at a tiki bar or the Windmill Bar for a drink and views from a hilltop, or to grab food at Skinny Legs in Coral Bay if you want lunch. The guide can also take you to spots where sea turtles are commonly seen. Beach chairs and bottled water come with the tour. You're welcome to bring your own drinks and snacks.

If you're arriving from St. Thomas, ferries run at 8:30am (for a 9am start) and noon (for a 12:30pm start), so you can time your crossing to match the tour. Tours run rain or shine, and children five and under need their own car seat, which you'll need to bring.
