The catamaran Second Chance runs as a private charter, which means you decide where to snorkel instead of following a fixed route. A typical half-day hits 2-3 reef stops, Maho on St. John, Lovango Cay, Christmas Cove and others are options, and the guide speaks English, Spanish or Portuguese. You bring nothing but a swimsuit. Snorkel gear, paddle boards, hammock chairs that hang off the stern and bean bags on the trampolines are all there.
The boat moves under sail, which means a smooth ride and no engine noise over the reefs. Between snorkeling stops you can float in the hammock chairs, paddle out on the boards or sit on deck while the crew handles the sails. A morning fruit and pastry tray arrives first, then a turkey wrap with cheese, veggies and chips at lunch. One gallon of rum punch or painkiller, a 12-pack of light beer, soda and water stay available all day.
Four and a half hours total gives you time in the water without the full-day commitment. The only thing not covered is gratuities, which you settle at the end.
