The experience
You launch from Great Cruz Bay and follow your guide's ski out into Pillsbury Sound, the narrow channel between St. Thomas and St. John. The route passes three cays: Grass Cay, a low, scrub-covered island roughly 1.6 miles long with no residents; Steven Cay, a rocky 28-foot rise popular with snorkelers, sitting just half a mile west of Cruz Bay; and Mingo Cay, a 48-acre uninhabited island two miles northwest of St. John. The guide sets the pace and leads the way through the water, and you follow on your own machine.
Operating the ski requires a valid driver's license and at least moderate fitness. Before departure, you'll swim approximately 20 yards and climb aboard unassisted: the operator uses this as a safety check to confirm you can reboard if you fall during the tour. All riders must know how to swim. Children ages 10–17 ride free as passengers behind an adult operator. Children under 10 are not permitted. A life jacket is provided. Parking is available at the Westin St. John, and public transportation options are nearby if you're staying elsewhere on the island.
Single operators cannot exceed 250 pounds. An operator and rider combined cannot exceed 350 pounds. A credit card deposit is required to operate. The tour is not recommended for travelers with spinal injuries, cardiovascular conditions, or pregnancy. Operators cannot participate if under the influence of drugs or alcohol. Staff reserves the right to cancel with no refund if suspected.
