The Experience

You meet your guides at Al Bandar marina in Abu Dhabi, and after a quick safety briefing, you're handed the keys to a Rhino Rider speedboat. It's not a guided tour where you sit back — you're actually piloting the thing. The marina staff walk you through the controls, and then you're out on the water, throttle in your hands, heading toward Yas Island. The bay opens up fast, and you realize you're not just moving through it, you're in charge of how.

The first real stop is Mangrove Alley, a 3-kilometer stretch of trees on both sides of the water where flamingos actually hang out. You cut the engine and drift, watching for movement in the branches. After that, you pass the Yas Island Golf Course with Ferrari World in the background — the kind of backdrop that makes sense for a selfie, even if you're not usually that person. Then it's over to Peninsula Gold Beach, where you can jump in for a swim or just float and eat a picnic if you brought one. The water's warm, and the mangroves are close enough to touch.

Heritage Island comes next, and it's a shift — traditional UAE architecture, and if you're lucky, you'll spot ostriches or gazelle moving through the landscape. Then you rev back up and head toward Al Raha Creek, where the modern stuff takes over.
