The experience
The tour starts in front of the Lviv Opera and Ballet Theater and moves through the heart of the Old Town on foot. Rynok Square is the centerpiece: a medieval market square where wealthy merchants were once required to build houses no taller than three floors and no wider than three windows along the façade. Four fountains at the corners depict Greek mythology figures. The City Hall tower rises from the square's edge, and your guide points out the rule that shaped the architecture you see.
Walking the narrow cobblestone streets, you pass the Latin Cathedral (14th century, partly Gothic), the Church of the Jesuits (Baroque), and the Chapel of Boim Family: a gray and blackened sandstone vault from the early 17th century carved with biblical scenes. The Pharmacy Museum, one of Europe's oldest operating pharmacies, sits on Market Square. It has been in business since 1735 under the name "Pharmacy under the Black Eagle." You also walk down one of Lviv's most ancient streets, where you'll see the "House of the Seasons" and a monument to the inventor of the kerosene lamp. The tour passes through the Armenian quarter, where the Armenian Cathedral stands as a unique example of Eastern architecture in Europe. You'll also see the Dominican Cathedral (18th century, Baroque), the Church of St. Andrew (a former Bernardine Church, now Greek Catholic), and monuments including the statue of Grand Duke Danylo of Galicia-Volyn. The walk ends in the city center, where your guide recommends places to eat.
A professional guide leads the entire tour and speaks English, Spanish, Italian, French or one of several other languages. You choose at booking. The pace suits all fitness levels, and parents traveling with infants or small children can bring a pram or stroller. This is a private tour, so the guide's attention stays on your group alone.

Top questions
What languages is the tour guided in?
In English, Russian, Polish and Ukrainian, at 10:00, 12:00, 14:00 and 16:00. In Spanish, French, German and Italian, with 7 departure times.
What is the Pharmacy Museum and why is it on this tour?
The Pharmacy Museum is one of Europe's oldest operating pharmacies, founded in 1735 on Market Square under the name "Pharmacy under the Black Eagle." It's a working pharmacy and museum combined, and the tour includes a visit so you can see how it operated centuries ago and how it functions today.
Does the tour go inside the churches and monuments, or do we just see them from outside?
The tour is a walking tour through the streets and squares where you see the exteriors and learn their history from your guide. The Pharmacy Museum is the main interior stop included. Some churches may be open for you to enter on your own time after the tour ends, but the guide will advise you on which ones and their visiting hours.
How much walking is involved, and is it suitable for someone who's not very fit?
The tour covers the Old Town on foot over 2.5 hours on cobblestone streets and narrow lanes. It's suitable for all physical fitness levels according to the operator, though the uneven medieval streets and the distance mean you should be comfortable walking at a steady pace. Infants and small children can travel in a pram or stroller.
What makes Rynok Square special, and how much time do we spend there?
Rynok Square is the architectural heart of medieval Lviv, where a strict building code once limited merchant houses to three floors and three windows. Four fountains with mythological figures decorate the corners, and the City Hall tower rises from the square. Your guide explains the history and rules that shaped the square, and you walk through it as part of the larger tour route rather than stopping for an extended period.
Will the guide recommend places to eat, and can I ask for restaurant suggestions?
Yes. The tour ends in the city center, and your guide will advise you on the best restaurants and cafes for your free time afterward. You can ask for recommendations based on what you're in the mood for.
