Murchison Falls Safari: Waterfall & Wildlife Tour
Two days tracking wildlife and the world's most powerful waterfall
A 2-day guided safari from Masindi takes you into Murchison Falls National Park with a professional driver-guide, starting with an early morning game drive to spot wildlife around the falls, then a Nile cruise where the river shrinks to a few meters as it heads toward the thunderous rapids. The tour includes park entry, transport in a 4x4 van, and a trained guide who knows the route and the animals.
Step-by-step itinerary
Safari and waterfall cruise
- Meet driver-guide at pickup point
- Transfer to central Masindi
- Start safari to Murchison Falls
- Explore wildlife and nature
- Take waterfall cruise on the Nile
The experience
Two days means you leave Masindi early on day one and spend the morning and afternoon in Murchison Falls National Park, where the Nile narrows dramatically before plunging through the falls. Your driver-guide picks you up from your accommodation and drives you to the park entrance, then takes you on a game drive to spot wildlife in the surrounding bush and grassland. The park sits along the Nile's path north, so you move through habitat where animals gather around the water.
After the morning drive, you board a boat for a cruise on the Nile itself. The waterfall's power is the draw here: Murchison Falls is narrower than Victoria Falls but makes up for it with a roar and spray that reaches you from the boat. The Nile compresses from a wide river into just a few meters of width as the water accelerates toward the rapids, a sight the guide will point out as you cruise. The mist cools you on a hot day, and the sound carries across the water.
Your guide speaks English and knows the park well enough to spot animals and explain what you're seeing. The 4x4 van is built for rough park roads, and all park fees and taxes are included in the price. Meals are not part of the tour, so plan to bring food or arrange it separately. Public transport options exist near Masindi if you prefer not to use the hotel pickup, though the guided transfer gets you to the park on time for the early start.

Top questions
What happens if it rains?
It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.
What animals might I see on the game drive at Murchison Falls?
Murchison Falls National Park is home to buffalo, elephants, giraffes, antelopes and other savanna wildlife. The early morning drive is when animals are most active around water sources, and your guide will watch for movement in the grass and trees as you travel the park roads.
How does the Nile look different on the boat cruise?
The Nile narrows dramatically as it approaches Murchison Falls, compressing from a wide river into just a few meters of width before the water plunges through the rapids. From the boat you see this narrowing up close and feel the mist and hear the roar of the falls as the water accelerates.
What time does the safari start on day one?
The safari starts early in the morning after your driver-guide picks you up from your accommodation in Masindi. An early start gets you into the park when wildlife is most active and before the heat of midday.
Do I need to arrange my own meals during the 2 days?
Meals are not included in the tour price. You'll need to bring food with you or arrange it separately before the safari begins. Your guide can advise on options near the park or in Masindi.
Is there a minimum age for this safari?
The minimum age is 16 years old. Younger children may be able to join with special arrangement, but you should confirm with the operator before booking.
