Learn faster by sharing the kite with others in a lively group setting.

A three-hour kiteboarding lesson on Provo designed for absolute beginners, combining you with one or two others to keep costs down and accelerate learning through shared kite time. An instructor trained in group dynamics teaches you to set up all the gear, control the kite in the water, relaunch it safely and land your first waterstart on the board, with jet ski support and all equipment included. The exact time is messaged after you book, timed to low tide when the flats are walkable.

The experience

This is the first lesson experience: you arrive with no kiteboarding skills and leave having actually ridden the board. The instructor uses teaching aids on the beach to cut through the learning curve, then takes you into the water to practice kite control, relaunch drills and the safety systems before moving to body surfing and finally the waterstart itself: the moment you actually ride. Because you're sharing the lesson with one or two others, you get mental and physical breaks while someone else is flying the kite, and those breaks actually speed up how fast you learn. Switching who holds the kite changes your angle on what's happening and keeps your brain fresh.

Kite Provo has run the school since 2006 and the instructors are trained specifically in how to teach groups, not just how to kiteboard themselves. All the gear you need is included, and jet ski support is there the whole time. The lesson runs three hours, timed to low tide so you can walk the shallows instead of swimming between spots. Your exact start time gets messaged to you after you book because the tides shift every day.

Bring sun protection, water to drink and inexpensive sunglasses with a strap (expensive ones don't survive the water). Water shoes are optional. High-energy snacks help. Food and drinks aren't provided. You'll need at least moderate fitness and a minimum weight of 80 pounds to generate enough power in the kite.

Top questions

What languages is the tour guided in?

Live guide in English, Spanish and French.

What happens if it rains?

It may be canceled due to bad weather. If that happens, you're offered another date or a refund. Free cancellation up to 24 h before the start.

What exactly do I learn to do in the three hours?

You learn to set up all the gear on the beach, control the kite in the water, relaunch it if it drops, use the safety systems, body surf and land your first waterstart on the board, the actual ride. The instructor uses teaching aids on the beach first to eliminate wasted time in the water.

Why does sharing the lesson with others actually help me learn faster?

Switching who flies the kite gives you a different angle on what's happening and lets your body and mind rest while you're still learning by watching. The instructor uses group dynamics to keep everyone engaged the whole time, and the breaks actually accelerate how fast you pick it up.

How do I know what time my lesson starts?

The exact time is messaged to you after you book because the lesson must happen at low tide when you can walk and stand in the shallows. Tides shift every day, so the time changes daily.

Is jet ski support really there the whole time?

Yes, jet ski support is included throughout the three-hour lesson for safety and to help you get back to the beach or move between spots without swimming.

What's the minimum age and weight to take this lesson?

You must be at least 12 years old and weigh a minimum of 80 pounds to generate enough power in the kite to make the lesson work.
