The experience

Kas sits on Turkey's southern coast with more than 30 dive sites that range from shallow reefs to deep wrecks and canyons. The water holds modern shipwrecks, rocky formations studded with ancient amphorae and anchors, large underwater caves and sea-grass meadows. Visibility is excellent year-round, and the temperature swings from 19°C in January to 29°C in August, so you can dive in almost any season. Sea turtles swim alongside divers regularly. The Mediterranean monk seal, one of the world's rarest marine mammals, appears here sometimes.

You meet at the office and dive with a guide who speaks English, German or Turkish. All scuba equipment is provided, along with snorkelling gear if you want to surface and explore shallower sections. The Kas-Kekova Marine Preservation Area is home to lessepsian species that migrated from the Red Sea, adding species diversity most Mediterranean divers don't encounter elsewhere. The dives themselves span 4 to 7 hours depending on which sites the guide chooses and how many you visit in a single outing.

Divers must be certified and at least 14 years old. You'll need moderate physical fitness. The activity is not recommended for anyone with spinal injuries, cardiovascular concerns or pregnancy. Public transportation options are available near the meeting point, and the office is wheelchair accessible, though the diving itself requires mobility in and out of the water.
