The Experience

I didn’t think I’d ever see Istanbul from this angle — literally drifting between Europe and Asia, tea in hand, the skyline sliding by like some living postcard. Our captain (I wish I remembered his name; he had that gentle, patient way of explaining things) pointed out Dolmabahçe Palace just as the light hit its windows. There were families waving from the shore, kids running along the quay. It felt like we were part of their Saturday somehow.

The breeze picked up near Rumeli Fortress and for a second everything went quiet except for the boat’s engine and seagulls overhead. I watched my friend lean over the rail just to let her hair tangle in the wind — she said she wanted to “feel both continents at once.” Maybe that’s cheesy but honestly, I get it now.
