The experience

The tour picks you up from your hotel and moves through six to eight hours of Cappadocia's signature landscape. You'll start at the Goreme Open Air Museum, a UNESCO World Heritage Site where the best-preserved rock-cut churches sit carved into the hillside. From there the route takes you to Cavusin, an abandoned Greek village where you can walk through the shared history of Greeks and Turks and the population exchange that shaped the region. The minivan then heads to Monks Valley, where the largest concentration of fairy chimneys (the mushroom-shaped rock formations the area is known for) rise from the ground.

In Avanos, you'll watch a pottery demonstration of kick-wheel work, a craft that has been made the same way for nearly 4,000 years. The tour then descends into Kaymakli Underground City, the largest underground settlement in Cappadocia, where you walk through the chambers and passages that once sheltered entire communities. Before heading back, you stop at a viewpoint overlooking Pigeon Valley and Uchisar Castle. Lunch is included at a local restaurant, and vegetarian options are available if you request them when you book.
