The experience
The Octopus Rocks sit 16 meters down off Djerba, a site built around the animals that live there rather than the scenery around them. Your dive instructor meets you before the dive to verify your certification documents, walk through the equipment, and brief you on what to expect. The 15-minute boat ride gets you to the site, and then you descend with the guide to explore the rocks themselves.
The fauna here is what makes the dive: octopuses in their natural habitat, groupers that are curious enough to approach divers, hermit crabs, and a range of nudibranchs across the rocks. The site is accessible to Level 1 divers, so if you hold a basic open-water certification, you can go. All equipment is provided, and your guide stays with you the entire time underwater.
